The dog owner's guide to keeping their home fresh

  • Written by News Company

They bring bundles of joy to many of us, but on the most part, dogs will also bring plenty of side effects to the home. As you may have guessed from the title, one such side effect is their odor.

Granted, some breeds have a stronger odor than others, but on the whole they all bring something to the table.

However, there are ways to live with such odors and ultimately keep your home as fresh as can be. Through today’s article, we will take a look at some of the best tips.

The masking formula; a bunch of Avas Flowers

As you'll soon find out through today's article, a lot of the tips we will mull over focus on prevention, rather than a cure. However, let's just talk about the latter for a moment, courtesy of Avas Flowers. Avas Flowers have developed a sterling reputation for their beautiful, but deliciously smelling flowers.

For a dog owner, this can be worth their weight in gold. Flowers are natural, and subsequently pet friendly, and can mask all of the unwanted odors that our canine friends leave behind!

Be careful how you sweep hard floors

Any pet owner who has hard floors will know how torrid they can quickly become. Hair is more obvious than ever (which is perhaps worrying for those homes with carpets where everything is disguised!).

Something that you must be careful of is how you sweep these floors. A lot of the hair and other pet debris does have its own distinct odor, and in a frantic dash to eliminate it from the house we can get a little brush-heavy. Ultimately, it all spirals everywhere - and the smell will be all over your home in record speeds.

Identify the strongest sources

Not all pet odors are equal. Like it or not, it's never going to be a completely pure atmosphere, but by following the tips today you will be able to at least keep on top of it.

One of the best ways to do this is to identify the pain points. You'll find that some areas are contributing much more than others. It might be a stain on one section of a carpet, or the area in which your dog sleeps, but there are some regions of the house which receive the brunt-end of your pets odors and this is something you should aim to stay on top of.

Keep on top of your own linens (as well as the dog's)

One of the big mistakes that a lot of pet owners make is only focusing on the dog's "belongings". In some ways, this is obvious, and this will most definitely be the source of most of the nasty odors.

By others, it will work against you. Like it or not, your linens and other soft furnishings will become affected, even if your dog doesn't have any direct contact with them. Make sure you keep on top of them to ensure that this doesn't happen.
